The “Cirque du Soiree” Mountain Street Party on Friday, July 25, featured gourmet food trucks and roving acrobats on the grounds of the old Fairfield Inn.  As guests watched the acrobats’ performances, they were treated to live music, gourmet food, and beverages of their choice, all set against the beautiful backdrop of Fairfield Lake with Bald Rock rising majestically in the background. All ladies in attendance were allowed to pick a souvenir scarf to take home, courtesy of Brooklyn Decker, Andy Roddick’s model/actress wife.

Saturday, July 26 was a gorgeous day for the eagerly anticipated tennis matches at Cedar Creek Racquet Club in Sapphire Valley! As preliminary sets were played between local amateurs, Andy Roddick and Jim Courier mingled with guests in the VIP Breakfast Tent. Afterwards, they took to the court for a Pro-Am doubles match with Team Roddick (Mark Gardiner and Andy Roddick) vs. Team Courier (Brad Mettee and Jim Courier). Team Courier was victorious. Then came what has become known as the “Andy and Jim Show” – the marquee match between two former World #1 tennis stars! During best out of five sets, not only did the two rivals and friends serve up killer tennis assaults on each other, they made jokes about each other’s tennis prowess to the delight of the crowd. Repeating last year’s success, Andy Roddick defeated Jim Courier.

At the end of the 2014 Mountain Challenge event, more than $200,000 was raised for the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau. The Club is slated to open its doors mid-September, 2014.

The fun continued with a delicious dinner catered by Biltmore. Under a sweeping tent filled with flowers and chandeliers, a lively auction was hosted by Andy Roddick, Jim Courier, and William McKee. Auction items included a one hour tennis lesson with Andy Roddick, and tickets to the USTA President’s Box for a day at the 2014 US Open, among other items. Grammy award-winning bands The Carolina Chocolate Drops and the Steep Canyon Rangers wowed the crowd, respectively, with their distinctively original music. Very few people could resist dancing and clapping along! In the end, guests parted with gift bags bearing goodies from supporters of the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau.

The second annual United Community Bank Mountain Challenge, the major fund-raising event for Mountain Youth Charities and the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, was a hit with the crowds in Cashiers on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26, 2014. Andy Roddick and Jim Courier, both former World #1 tennis champions, entertained attendees with witty banter during the Summer Soiree Friday night and then again with high-octane tennis and more verbal sparring on Saturday. Funds raised during the two day event are being used to renovate the old Cashiers Community Center to house the newly formed Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau.
